Spanish is the world’s second-most spoken native language with more than 500 million speakers. It is the official or co-official language in 21 countries in different continents (Europe, America and Africa). Also, the Spanish-speaking population is constantly increasing in the US, while Hispanic or Latino people are the largest ethnic minority, comprising 19% of the population of the country. In Korea, Spanish can be a big attraction too, especially in economic terms, since Latin America is a significant resource supplier and, at the same time, an attractive growing market with its large population. Spanish Language Major offers the chance to acquire this important language and to experience the cultural diversity of Spanish-speaking regions all over the world.
Education Objective
The educational goal of the Major is to cultivate experts with internatioanl qualifications. Firstly, it aims to enhance students’ conversational skills in Spanish based on solid grammar. Once basic language knowledge is obtained, we provide students with a better understanding of various Spanish language-related areas such as cultural and regional studies, linguistics, literature, translation and interpretation, etc., to meet academic and practical needs.
Specialities
The Major offers a complete program for its students to achieve a reliable knowledge of their major (from language to humanities and social sciences) and improve application skills. In addition, we have an exchange agreement with Spanish universities by which students can study one semester in Madrid, Barcelona, La Rioja or Málaga. An internship program is also operated by signing an MOU with the Bolivian Embassy in Korea.
